Wow, what a great story to pass on. To say that your father made one of the landmarks in Southern Illinois must make you proud of him. To see the Shawnee Forest being formed right before your eyes, must have been something.

As for the music, I’m with you. The sound recording on my current camcorder is inadequate to capture all the true sounds we take for granted. I hope to use your suggestion soon on a video and let natural world speak for itself.

Gary,

My father was the engineer responsible for the construction of the Pounds Hollow dam and I spent summers in the late thirties with him at Camp Cadiz and hiked over to The Garden of the Gods to ride the camel many times. I also lived and was schooled in Harrisburg during the school years ( HTHS – Class of ’44 ) , but spent many hours hunting and fishing in “Little Egypt” during that time. Enjoyed your website and would suggest that the natural sounds of the Shawnee National Forest are better than any musical score ever written.

Your right Steven. I do have a cloud book. I’ve seen the puffy ones before. I’ve identified the top photos as Altocumulus Stratiformis Perlucidus. Take a look at the website http://cloudappreciationsociety.org/collecting/tina-moore/.

a nice group of clouds. you could improve the page by naming the cloud type. i have no idea what kind of clouds those little puffs are.

Thanks for the comment Logan. Round Bluff still is a great trail. At the Y past the lake dam stay straight (right) and follow to the end. Just gives you a great excuse to go back. Have fun.

Ughhh my girlfriend and I are avid hikers throughout the shawnee national forest. I have visited and hiked many of the abundant trails all throughout. However, being from Harrisburg I have to admit I hadn’t visited Ferne Clyffe State park yet and neither had she. The problem is that we must have took the wrong trail because we never got to the waterfall. I think we took the Round Bluff trail? We still enjoyed the mile long hike and the beauty of the trail, however we definitely wanted to see the waterfall. We plan on taking another trip back soon to fish and see the waterfall.

Thanks for the kind words Beverly. It is a beautiful area. That is the one of the reasons I started the site to show others just how much diversity we have in southern Illinois.
