N0. 5 – Choice
It’s the choosing that’s important, isn’t it? – The Giver
Our lives are filled with choices. Some are big and some are small. Some we will feel the outcome/consequences of right away, but some will be felt well into the future.
- Do I go to college?
- Do I go to work?
- Should I eat breakfast?
- Do I spend time playing the latest app?
- Do I watch TV?
- Should I play with the kids?
- Should I exercise today?
- Do I make a left or right?
What we may not realize is that it is not always the BIG choices that shape our life, although they are the ones we agonize and lose sleep over.
What does shape our life is all those seemingly simple and small choices that are in between big choices that have the greatest accumulated effect.
These little choices are made up of little yes’s and no’s that are leading to those bigger Yes’s and No’s. When the big choices come around, we have already laid the foundation with our simple everyday choices.
I am a product of all my choices in life. My present condition no matter how positive or negative is how I have shaped and molded it, just as a potter molds their latest creation.
There are situations beyond our control, but how we respond or do not respond is the choice we have made and this foundation was laid down years ago on previous choices.
As a new year begins, how are you building your foundation to shape the outcome of your life?
