The Fuel of Nature
Coals smoldering. Embers glowing deep red. The remnants of a great fire still linger, but the fuel has all been burnt. The fire could live for days maybe weeks, but eventually the coals will be extinguished without the input of new fuel.
The mind can have the same aspects, without new fuel the mind can smolder not really progressing. The mind is destined for a final extermination. Nature to me is part of the fuel that keeps the fires bellowing. When I get to the smoldering stage a trip to Ferne Clyffe, La-Rue Pine Hills, or Bell Smith Springs will push the demands of society back and bring to the forefront sanity. Here in nature the creative mind takes over and clear thoughts begin to materialize.
Some of my best ideas have come from a long walk in the canopy of the forest with no particular destination. I,also, carry a camera so the mind can actively look for patterns and compositions. This requires a continuous attention to your environment. Carrying a small journal helps take the thought from the mind and puts them in written form to use at later times.
Nature to me is the fuel to ignite my creative imagination. So get out there and use this “fuel” that is readily available in Southern Illinois’ natural areas.
